Vision
It’s Saturday night and The Perk is hopping. Guyla has three people bustling around the tiny kitchen at the coffee shop preparing iced coffees, selling bottled drinks, and preparing a selection of sandwiches for the folks gathered to listen to the orchestra in the courtyard. During the week, folks drive through the open window and grab their coffee in to-go cups on the run to work and play, but Saturday night offers a different scenario.
Behind the coffee shop, on the green grass district of the park, silent movies play against a white-wall screen that offers FREE entertainment on Saturday nights and a vender sells popcorn and sodas to passers by. In another section of the park, neighbors chat after a potluck dinner while children play on equipment put together by citizens of the community. Is it any wonder that this is the HUB of the community?
Social-cultural gathering sites offer multiple opportunities for citizens of a town to get to know each other and meet on a personal level.
After a season of sports and entertainment where people resorted to spectator activities, it’s refreshing to find offerings that include both spectator and participation options. A whole new vision of community is evolving and it includes the opportunity to participate in life as we know it, to add our experiences to the mix and magnify our own existence.
Neighbors are getting to know neighbors, conversations over the back fence include exchaning recipes and garden produce. It isn’t unheard of for neighbors to congregate for a meal in a closed off cul de sac, and life is gentler because we know and understand the guy next door. Crime ceases to be an issue, because you just simply can’t steal from a friend.
Stress is disolved and smiles actually gather more smiles, because life as we know it is happy and fun. The community offers a better choice, and children come home to enjoy fun times they might miss if they’re not home to know what’s going on. Life centers around the neighborhood, and it’s safe to allow your children to play in the front yard.
